Accumulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in non-waxy and waxy rice germ during water soaking Thai Agricultural

Rice germ contains protein, vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA has been proved to be effective for lowering the blood pressure of human being. It has neurotransmission functions and tranquilizer effects. determination of GABA in rice germ and brown rice were investigated by using low-amylose, high-amylose and waxy rice cultivars. Percentage of germ weight showed no relation to the GABA content. The amount and patterns of the GABA accumulation varied depending on the cultivar. Application of mulberry (Morus alba L.) for supplementing antioxidant activity in extruded Thai rice snack Thai Agricultural

Development of Sen Yai and Mee from dry-milled rice flour Thai Agricultural

Broken rice was used for the production of dry-milled flour by grinding on Pin Mill. Particle sizes distribution of the resulting flour shown that major portion was coarse flour. Physicochemical properties of the flour with differing particle sizes were investigated and utilized as raw material in rice noodle production; Sen Yai and Sen Mee. The protein content decreased whereas the ash content increased with decreasing particle size. The amylose content of each fraction was similar. Water absorption index (WAI) and water solubility index (WSI) were greater for fine flour. Fine flour also possessed high value of lightness (L*) and low yellowness (b*). Effect of eucalyptus leaf meal supplementation on feed intake ruminal ecology and microbial protein synthesis of swamp buffaloes Thai Agricultural

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Eucalyptus (E. Camaldulensis) leaf meal (ELM) supplementation on voluntary feed intake, ruminal ecology and microbial protein synthesis of swamp buffaloes fed with rice straw. In this, ruminally fistulated swamp buffaloes with initial body weight of 321± 23 kg were randomly assigned according to a 4 x 4 Latin square design. Effect of grafting on watermelon growth and yield Thai Agricultural

Wilt of watermelon especially caused by Fusarium is a common and serious problem all over the world. Grafting with bottle gourd is a unique solution to control wilt of watermelon. The experiment was conducted in the coastal region of Bangladesh with the direct involvement of the farmers. All the grafted watermelon plants remain alive up to harvesting while more than one-third non-grafted plants died from vegetative to fruiting stage. Fruit yield was observed one and half times higher in grafted fields as compared to non-grafted counterparts.

Effect of milling process on functional properties of legumes Thai Agricultural

This study demonstrated the effect of milling processing (screw crushing, hammer milling and jet milling) on functional properties, such as antioxidant capacity, total phenolic content and resistant starch content of three legumes (broad beans, black soybeans and green beans). The results showed that broad beans possessed the highest antioxidant capacity and resistant starch content. Black soybeans had the highest total phenolic content. Different milling processes changed the functional properties of samples (p<0.05) depending on the particle size of the flour and the volume of the flush air operation. Effect of molasses and ammonium sulfate concentration on intracellular lipid accumulation by Trichosporon asahii Thai Agricultural

The objective of present study was to examine the effect of molasses and ammonium sulfate concentration on intracellular lipid accumulation by Trichosporon asahii. Nine culture media with different concentration of molasses (M,%) and ammonium sulfate (N,g/l) includings M8N0.5, M8N1.0, M8N1.5, M12N0.5, M12N1.0, M12N1.5, M16N0.5, M16N1.0 and M16N1.5 were randomly assigned in completely randomized design (CRD). Five milliliter of inoculums was transferred in 45 ml of media and incubated at 30oC with shaking at 160 rpm for 6 days. Results illustrated that lipid content was higher when T. asahii was cultured in the medium M12N0.5. This indicated that medium M12N0.5 was suitable for producing single cell oil for use as fat supplement in animal diet

Effects of extrusion conditions on the physical and functional properties of instant cereal beverage powders admixed with mulberry (Morus alba L.) leaves Thai Agricultural

On account of studying the feasibility of the production instant cereal beverage powders admixed with mulberry leaves by extrusion process, a box-behnken design of the response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to investigate the interaction of operating conditions at varying screw speed (300, 350 and 400 rpm), mulberry content (5, 10 and 15%) and feed moisture (15, 17 and 19%) on the physical and antioxidant property of product. Effects of partial replacement of rice flour with various starches on the physicochemical and sensory properties of Sen Lek noodle Thai Agricultural

This research was conducted to investigate the effects of partial replacement o rice flour with 5 to 20 % three different starches (potato, corn and cassava) on the chemical and the physical properties of both raw mixed flour and Sen Lek products. Functional properties of cereal and legume based extruded snack foods fortified with by-products from herbs and vegetables Thai Agricultural

This study demonstrated the effect of extrusion processing on the functional properties of extruded snack foods developed from cereal and legumes, and the by-products from herbs and vegetables. The functional properties considered were antioxidant capacity, total phenolic compounds and resistant starch content. The results showed that Japanese green tea had the highest antioxidant capacity and phenolic content (68.31mmol Trolox/g and 337.58 mg GAE/g, respectively) and egoma leaves had the second highest (8.35 mmol Trolox/g and 60.60 mg GAE/g, respectively). Household income and expenditure of farmers in Lao PDR: Comparison between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers Thai Agricultural

The objective of this study was to compare household income and expenditure between rubber tree and sugarcane farmers. The purposive sampling technique was used for data collection, and a structured questionnaire was used to interview a total of 100 farmers. A descriptive analysis was applied. The results indicated that in 2000-2010, the household income of rubber tree farmers was higher than those sugarcane farmers, especially in long run. The household consumption has increased during 2000-2010. The rubber tree farmers expensed their consumption in food item more than rice, but it was contrary for the sugarcane farmers. Promising line IR77954-28-36-3 was first developed at the International Rice Research Institute in 1998. Selection and backcrossing were conducted at Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center during 1999-2004. Evaluation for yield potential and environmental adaptation was carried out in the upper northern region during 2005-2012. Results from experimental fields in research centers showed that this line gave average grain yield of 12-22% higher than KDML105, flowering date ranging from 11-24 October, 107-172 centimeter height, resistance to blast disease, good response to nitrogen fertilizer, and cooking quality similar to KDML105.
